Hydrodynamics of an OWC Device in Irregular Incident Waves Using RANS Model

This research examines the hydrodynamic performance of an oscillating water column device placed over a sloping seabed under influence irregular incident waves. The numerical model is based on Reynolds-veraged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations with modified k?? turbulence and uses volume-of-fluid (VOF) approach to monitor air–water interface. To explore OWC in actual ocean conditions, Pierson–Moskowitz (P-M) spectrum was used as wave spectrum, together four distinct sea states which occur most often along western coast Portugal. simulation offers comprehensive velocity vector streamline profiles inside device’s chamber during entire cycle pressure fluctuation. In addition, impact conditions free-surface elevation at various places, drop between outside, airflow rate via orifice per unit width are investigated detail. results demonstrate that amplitudes inward outward velocities orifice, elevations, flow characteristics greater for more significant heights. Further, it noticed power generation capture efficiency higher having moderate slopes.
